Every wedding day has a story that leads up to it: some are traditional, some have tragic elements, others are inspiring. Each is unique to the two people who are joining their lives together in holy matrimony.
Before the wedding, the bride needs to find something to wear: the perfect wedding dress. In Jeffrey Zaslow's book, The Magic Room, Zaslow travels to Becker's Bridal in Fowler, Michigan, a generations of family owned bridal shop in a small town. It is there at Becker's that brides journey to find the perfect dress, standing in "the magic room", each bringing her own story with her.
The "magic room" is a special room at Becker's Bridal, made just for the bride. In a former bank vault, surrounded by walls lined with mirrors, stands a pedestal upon which a woman can stand transformed into a glowing bride.
Brides like Erika,who has taken a vow of purity with her Marine fiance, and Danielle, whose mother wasn't able to be with her after passing away unexpectedly at the age of thirty-three, stand in the Magic Room and reflect upon their journeys that led them to this magical point. Zaslow shares their stories poignantly, making you laugh and cry and leaving you feeling as if you know these women personally and wishing that you could continue to follow their lives as their stories unfold into the future.
