On Vacation

Sorry I haven't written in so long, I have been on vacation! :D Yay!

We are in Florida right now visiting my Dad, my step-mom Karen, my brother and his fiancee (they're getting married on Saturday!) and other family. So far it's been a really good visit.

The road trip was long, but we got to see some friends along the way which was really great. More on all of that later.

Just wanted to update the blog since it's been so long since I've written anything.

Until next time - I hope you have a blessed day!

Goodbyes are hard

Saying goodbye is hard. It hurts. It doesn't ever get easy.

Even knowing that there is FB and blogs and email. It still hurts to say goodbye.

Yesterday my dear friend Sierra and I said our goodbyes before she left for her new base where her husband has an awesome opportunity. I took Sophie and Edward out to her van, one by one, to say goodbye to Will and Alanna, and to explain that they are going bye-bye for a long time; that they are moving to a new home and so they won't be around to play with and we won't see them again for a long while.

I'm not sure that they understood, but I'm glad that they had a chance to say goodbye and get some closure, or what I hope is closure. How much closure can you have when you are two years old?

Sierra and I said some last words and gave last hugs. She has been such an amazing friend to me in our time as friends here. She has brought me meals, watched my kids overnight when I was in the hospital with pre-term labor with Daphne, and again when I gave birth to Daphne, listen to me cry on the phone when going through a rough time, hugged me and let me cry on her shoulder when I had to put my cat down because she had cancer, laughed with me, traveled with me, learned with me, given me great and Godly advice (have sex with your husbands ladies!!), and generally just been an awesome friend. Honestly I didn't know what to say except that she was awesome and a God-send.

I put on my sunglasses to hide the tears (Will was looking right at me and I didn't want to upset him) and watched her pull out of the drive way and drive away to her new life where I know the Lord will bless her. I had such a hollow, knotty feeling in my stomach; you know that feeling you get when you have to say goodbye and you're trying to swallow your tears and not think about that empty spot that is now in your life. It's not that we won't ever see each again, Lord willing we will (we have plans!), it's just different.

The Lord tells us though, that we will have hard times in our lives. He tells us in His Word, in John 15, that we are branches apart of the vine (He is the vine), and that sometimes He has to cut a branch off and replant it somewhere else so that growth can occur. We are called to bear fruit, and if we become stagnant in our growth, we can't adequately bear fruit for Him.

And so it, another pruning. I know that the Lord has a plan for Sierra and will use her in a mighty way for His glory. But that plan couldn't come to completion here, and so she had to be pruned and moved. It is an awesome opportunity for growth and glory for the Lord.

Sierra, I know you're reading this (in between TLF and house hunting and unpacking and finding a good school and so on), and I know that you will continue to stay in the Lord through His Word, through prayer and through fellowship. Hold fast, persevere and look to the Lord. He will sustain you through the tough times, the dark times. He will hide you in the cleft of the Rock. He will not disappoint you because He has poured out His love into your heart by the Holy Spirit, whom He gave to us. He will meet ALL your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

YSIC, Tegan
